Sam Hunt Reveals Controversial Rule in His Marriage He Won’t Budge On
Sam Hunt has gone out of his way to keep a blanket over his personal life over the years — he keeps most things non-musical close to the chest.
But during a recent visit to Taste of Country Nights, On Demand, Hunt was eager to reveal a controversial rule he has at his house. When asked if he's had to spend some nights on the couch in the past few years, the "Outskirts" singer had quite the reply.
"One thing about my wife is that she forgives quickly," Hunt says, referencing his missteps which include infidelity and a DUI arrest.
"And I also have a rule — that I'm not sleeping on the couch, if so," he says, chuckling a bit before doubling down to stress that he's serious.
"She's gonna have to shoot me before I don't sleep in my own bed."
Later in the conversation, the "Body Like a Back Road" singer reveals that his wife isn't really impressed by his music or his career. But he is more than okay with that.
"As men, we need somebody in our life to keep our feet on the ground," he says.
Hunt seems to have gotten his act together after a tumultuous few years. In 2019, his wife was out of town and he went out and had drinks with some buddies and decided to drive home, which resulted in a DUI.
The country star just released a song called "Locked Up" that seems to mirror that event in his life. It's the lead song from an EP with the same title.
"The night I got locked up / Everything went wrong / The night I got messed up / I should've just stayed home / Picked up my phone / What can I say / Well, I thought that you'd walk away / But you stood by your man / Like Tammy Wynette / Did everything / You could've just quit / No, but you showed me love / Kept going when the going got tough / The night I got locked up."
Hunt's wife, Hannah Lee, filed for divorce in February of 2023, only to call off the divorce in May, in time for the arrival of their first child, daughter Lucy. They are now parents of two small kids.
