Taylor Swift to Release ‘Red’ on October 22
'Red.' That's the title of Taylor Swift's upcoming, 16-song 2012 new album, which will be released on October 22. She revealed the big news during her live YouTube web chat on Monday (Aug. 13). If you're keeping track, that's almost two years to the day since the release of 'Speak Now,' which dropped on Oct. 25 back in 2010.
Swift also shared the 'Red' album cover, which is a profile shot featuring her signature red lips and her wavy hair. Her eyes are obscured, but it's an arresting and mysterious image. She also debuted the new single 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,' an upbeat, girl power anthem if there ever was one.
Looking gorgeous in an appropriately red and white striped dress, red button earrings and ruby lips, Swift's attire was in keeping with the album's colorful title. She revealed the title and release date at the top of the chat, saying, "I have some really big news. I have a new album coming out October 22. The album title is called 'Red' and we've already done so much work for this. I wanted to show you the album cover, too." She unveiled the cover, which was concealed by a -- you guessed it -- red sheath!
She expanded on the album title for lucky chat viewers, saying, "I wrote a song called 'Red' and thinking about what that means to me and all the different emotions that are written about on this album, they're all about the tumultuous, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships I've experienced in the past two years."
Swift shared that she picked the 16 tracks that made the album from a pool of 30 to 35. While she had no co-writers on 'Speak Now,' she wanted to approach things differently this time around. She said she called her songwriting heroes to see if they wanted to work with her, and of course, most of them did.
"I got to work with some of my absolute favorite people in music so this is album is full of co-writers," she said, "The people that I worked with, I feel like were incredible and lived up to what I thought they were."
Her Ed Sheeran duet, which was written while they sat on a trampoline, will appear on the album, as well. As for the single, 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,' which she said is about her ex-boyfriend, is an upbeat, confessional, hand-clapper singalong, destined to be adored by her throng of young fans. She was dancing with those very fans gathered at her feet.
So there you have it. Tons of Taylor Swift news and lots to look forward to.
