It's been a decade since Yearwood released an album of all-original material. She cut six new songs for PrizeFighter: Hit After Hit (2014), but the majority of that project was previously recorded material. Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love (2007) was her last album of originals. The title track was her biggest hit from that project, peaking just inside the Top 20.

"I'm starting to listen to songs," Yearwood tells Taste of Country. "So I'll probably get in the studio in January ... I'm ready to get back in the studio and I'll have an album out by middle of next year."

The songs will dictate her new album's direction, Yearwood adds. "I definitely want it to be a record where people go, 'Oh, there's Trisha. That's what we wanna hear,'" she says.

Find four of Yearwood's songs with Brooks on their new Christmas Together holiday album, out Nov. 11. She also has several solo cuts on the holiday album and one duet with Brooks on his new Gunslinger album, out Nov. 25. It's called "Whiskey to Wine" and it's recorded in the spirit of classic duets.

Both Yearwood and Brooks talked to Taste of Country prior to the 2016 CMA Awards in Nashville. Watch through the end of the above video to see an outtake in which Brooks grabs the microphone and interviews his wife. He is delighted to hear her response to his questions.
