Trisha Yearwood is gearing up for one of the biggest performances of her career with the live televised musical The Passion. Broadcast and taped live from New Orleans, Yearwood will play the Virgin Mary in a modern day depiction of Jesus Christ's final hours on earth.

The musical will air on Fox this weekend, and the country singer sat down with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hagar on Today to discuss the role. Yearwood explains that the music for the televised musical is all recorded separately, and she won't actually meet her fellow castmates until two days prior to the live performance, when they'll all rehearse in New Orleans.

The modern day take on The Passion will have Yearwood singing a song by Lifehouse, and she was surprised how well the music went with the musical. "It was really cool to me how everybody's songs fit," she says. "When they're woven into the story they all work."

So what does husband Garth Brooks think of the live musical? Yearwood admits that she thinks he's nervous for her.

"He's like, 'I'm going to be your support however you want. If you want me to go to New Orleans and hold your hand I will. If you want me not to go, I won't go,'" she explains. "I don't know what I want. I haven't decided yet. I've still got a few days. He's probably going to have to be there."

Yearwood admits that she is "really nervous" about the role. While she sings live all the time, she says she has "never done anything remotely close to this."

The Passion will air on Fox on March 20 at 8PM ET.
