Alabama to Celebrate 40 Years With ‘Alabama and Friends’ Tribute Album
This year, Alabama has a lot to celebrate. After 40 years together, the iconic country group has released 30 chart-topping singles and sold more than 73 million albums. The band will celebrate their 40th anniversary by releasing a tribute album with special guests.
On the 'Alabama and Friends' record, popular country stars like Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line, Jamey Johnson, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts and Trisha Yearwood will cover some of the most well-known Alabama songs.
In addition to including new versions of singalong hits like 'Tennessee River,' 'The Closer You Get,' 'Love in the First Degree' and more, the record will feature the band's first new songs in more than 10 years. The songs chosen for this record are not only some of Alabama's most popular -- they are some of the most well-known songs in country music.
"Our longevity is a tribute to the hard work we did in selecting songs, because it's the songs that people remember," bassist Teddy Gentry says of the band's knack for putting out top hits.
The group is excited to have so many award-winning country stars giving their take on Alabama hits.
"It's very much an honor that they'd take part in an Alabama tribute," guitarist Jeff Cook says of the acts included on the album. "We had a lot of fun working with them, and I think the finished product testifies to both the fun and the quality that went into it."
The 'Alabama & Friends' tribute album is scheduled for release on Aug. 27.
