Blake Shelton's new album will likely include a spiritual song. The "Hell Right" singer just released a modern country-gospel song called "Jesus Got a Tight Grip" that he co-wrote with the same woman who helped him with his last holy hit.

Jessi Alexander joins Shelton, Chase McGill and Rhett Akins as co-writers on "Jesus Got a Tight Grip," a song released to digital service providers on Tuesday (Oct. 15). She also co-wrote "Savior's Shadow" with him for his If I'm Honest album (2016), comparing it to Kris Kristofferson's "Why Me Lord?"

"Cause Jesus got a tight grip on my soul / And he ain't lettin' go, he ain't lettin' go," Shelton sings at the chorus of the new song. "Devil reaches out but he can't grab hold / Cause Jesus got a tight grip on my soul / And he ain't lettin' go, he ain't lettin' go / Might have a little rust on my halo / But when I'm gone I know where I'll go / Cause Jesus got a tight grip on my soul."

Shelton rarely includes songs he wrote on his albums. There was just one ("Turnin' Me On," another Alexander co-write) on Texoma Shore (2017), three on If I'm Honest (including another with Alexander) and none on his previous two albums. It's not confirmed that "Jesus Got a Tight Grip" will be on his upcoming Fully Loaded: God's Country album when it drops on Dec. 13. Thus far "God's Country" and "Hell Right" with Trace Adkins are the only two songs he's confirmed, although the album is expected to include several old hits.
