Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson Uniting for Warrior Games Concert in Chicago
Grammy winners Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson are coming together for a one-night-only show at Soldier Field in Chicago in the name of military members.
The concert, part of the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games, will take place on July 1 and is the official kickoff for the paralympic-style competition, which hosts approximately 265 competing wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans.
“The men and women that serve and protect this country on a daily basis allow the rest of us the freedoms we enjoy,” Shelton says. “I’m proud to be part of this event and root these heroes on to victory at this year’s Warrior Games.”
Competitors represent teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and US Special Operations Command. In addition, the United Kingdom Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force will also be represented. Athletes will participate in eight adaptive sports: archery, cycling, shooting, field, swimming, sitting volleyball, track and wheelchair basketball.
Which Country Artists Served in the Military?
“I can’t wait to perform this year at the Warrior Games," Clarkson says in a statement. "Any time we can all be a part of something that lifts up and shines a light on all of these heroes that are participating is an amazing moment. ... These men and women have put their lives on the line for us and have overcome so much in the process of doing that. It will be a tremendous honor to perform for them and their families who have sacrificed so much.”
The games take place June 30-July 8 at various locations throughout downtown Chicago and will be co-hosted by the U.S. Navy and the City of Chicago. This is the first time the public games will be held outside of a military installation or U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Tickets for the Shelton-Clarkson concert will be available via Ticketmaster.com starting June 6. For more information about the 2017 DoD Warrior Games, visit dodwarriorgames.com.
