Brett Eldredge has been tapped as the first celebrity judge for the 95th Annual Miss America Competition. He's beautiful, they're beautiful — so it makes perfect sense for the singer to offer his opinion during the event.

“I get to judge Miss America. Are you kidding me?!” remarks the reigning CMA New Artist of the Year. “Talk about a dream come true! I can’t wait to be a part of this.”

The Illinois native is the first of seven celebrity judges to be named for the pageant, with the others to be announced in the weeks leading up to the show. Eldredge will be taking notes on the 52 women representing their home states and territories on Sept. 13 at 9PM ET on ABC.

"It's beyond beauty – it's that they have it together and they know what they want, the 29-year-old country star explains to People of what he'll be looking for. "I'll be basing a lot of my decisions on that. Swimsuit is obviously a great category but the talent part says a lot about a person. Everybody in the whole world has a certain talent, so I think that will be my favorite part – seeing what each woman brings to the table."

Eldredge is currently on the road supporting Darius Rucker on the Southern Style tour through the remainder of the summer before he teams up with Thomas Rhett for the 2015 CMT fall tour.

He is also prepping the release of his sophomore album, Illinois, which is slated to be released on Sept. 11, two days before the pageant airs.
