Country singer Brett Kissel experienced a pretty incredible moment when he stepped up to sing the (American) National Anthem at a recent hockey game in Edmonton, Canada.
Singing "The Star Spangled Banner" is intimidating enough as it is, but Kissel made the most of a seemingly disastrous situation during Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Second Round, where California's Anaheim Ducks faced off against the Edmonton Oilers. Just as Kissel was about the sing the anthem, he noticed that his microphone wasn't working. Rather than throwing in the towel, he turned it into a powerful moment, encouraging the entire arena to sing along with him — even the Canadians. And they did.
Kissel, a native of Alberta, Canada, is a big fan of the Oilers, so much so that he wrote a song titled "We're Gonna Win the Cup" in honor of their participation in the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 27-year-old star has had considerable success in Canada, with his debut single "Started With a Song" setting the record as the most-added at Canadian radio during the week of its release, topping a record previously set by superstar Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."
Country stars have been popping up all over the 2017 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games, with Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town and Vince Gill all taking to the ice at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena to sing the National Anthem before games as the Predators continue their reign in the playoffs.
