Brett Young wowed with an emotional performance of "Mercy" during the 2018 CMA Awards. Casually sitting on a stool in the middle of a crowd of adoring fans, Young delivered an impassioned rendition of the tune, which recently became his fourth consecutive No. 1 single at country radio.

Wearing a casual unbuttoned shirt with a white undershirt, Young took his time on the song, opting to change his inflection at certain moments and underscore the pain inherent in the lyrics. A harmony singer off camera joined him on certain phrases, adding to the tension in the song:

"So if you're gonna break my heart, just break it / And if you're gonna take your shot, then take it / If you made up your mind, then make it / Make this fast / If you ever loved me / Have mercy"

After the performance, Young thanked country radio and introduced the radio stations that earned honors at this year's awards.

Brett Young was nominated for New Artist of the Year at this year's CMA Awards, an honor that ultimately went to his contemporary Luke Combs — another new male artist celebrating an incredible four No. 1 singles off his debut album.

"Mercy" is the fourth No. 1 from Young's eponymous debut album, Brett Young. It follows "Sleep Without You," "In Case You Didn't Know" and "Like I Loved You" as singles.
