Carrie Underwood is grabbing the NFL baton from Faith Hill and will be singing the opening theme song for NBC's weekly 'Sunday Night Football' program beginning this season. The 'Good Girl' singer is stoked to take over for her fellow country superstar and sing 'Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,' which is a reimagining of Joan Jett's 'I Hate Myself for Loving You.' Football season can't get here fast enough for Underwood.

Underwood said, "This is something that’s been a part of our household for a while now, and to be a part of that is exciting. I can’t wait!" Sundays are all about football, and who better to usher in the Sunday night tradition than Carrie Underwood and her voice?

Underwood is equally excited about taking over for Hill, saying, "For me, to have that opportunity and to follow in her footsteps and do something really cool like that, it sounded like fun, you know?”

Hill took over for Pink in 2007 and announced in April of this year that she would be moving on. Underwood was confirmed as Hill's heir apparent in May. Her version of the track will make its debut on Sept. 8, when the New York Football Giants square off against their NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys.

We're look forward to hearing what Underwood does with the now-iconic song.
