Former Cross Canadian Ragweed frontman Cody Canada is gearing up for the release of new music with his brand new band, the Departed. 'This Is Indian Land,' the debut release from Cody Canada and the Departed, will hit stores on June 21, with the album’s lead single, 'The Ballad of Rosalie,' going for adds May 16.

The 15-track album pays tribute to Oklahoma songwriters, which is something near and dear to Canada’s heart, as his roots are planted deeply in the red dirt of the Sooner State.

"It’s like the greatest place on earth," Canada, who moved to Stillwater, Okla. at age 16, says. "I met Tom Skinner, Scott Evans, Bob Childers, Jimmy LaFave [and] the Red Dirt Rangers and they were all playing this really, really good music. I didn’t even know what Red Dirt was until somebody told me. I got turned on to it all and it's stayed with me ever since."

When Cross Canadian Ragweed came off the road late last year, Canada's desire to record the tribute record once again moved to the forefront of his mind. He had no trouble pulling together some of the musicians he struck relationships with throughout his 15 years with CCR and headed into the studio, where the Departed was formed.

Last week, Cody Canada and the Departed (which includes Jeremy Plato on bass and vocals, Seth James on guitar and blues vocals, Dave Bowen on drums and Steve Littleton on B3 organ and keys) launched their new tour in preparation for the album’s release. "[The excitement of the tour] keeps me awake [at night]," Canada says. "We’re just ready to tear it up."
