Florida Georgia Line have announced the formation of a new record label, Round Here Records. The duo of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley have signed Canaan Smith as their new venture's first artist.

Hubbard tells Billboard that the label evolved naturally from their interest in finding worthy artists in need of some marketplace exposure.

“The label started with a passion to create music and to make records,” he states. “It happened organically [as] we continued to find the artists and friends that we love, believe in and thought had a gift and talent that we wanted to try to nurture. It turned into something that we are really excited about. [We’re] trying to do some trailblazing in this record label space.”

Smith was previously signed to Mercury Records in Nashville, where he released a string of singles from 2012-2017. He scored a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in 2015 with "Love You Like That," but subsequent releases failed to gain traction. Smith signed to FGL's Tree Vibez music publishing company as a songwriter in 2018, but Kelley and Hubbard say that while they will release music from more Tree Vibez writer-artists, they will also look outside those parameters for new signings.

Round Here Records is partnering with Kobalt's label services division, AWAL, for distribution and marketing services. The label's first release is Smith's new single, "Beer Drinkin' Weather," which dropped on Thursday (Aug. 15). The label has no plans to promote the single to country radio or release an album from Smith, opting instead to release a string of new music and possibly hire an independent promotion team or partner with a major label if a song starts to catch fire.

Smith is also set to open the remaining dates of Florida Georgia Line's massive 2019 Can't Say I Ain't Country Tour.
