Garth Brooks Releases Studio Version of ‘Stronger Than Me’
Piano replaces the acoustic guitar in the studio version of Garth Brooks' new single "Stronger Than Me." A more robust arrangement than offered during his CMA Awards debut of the song costs the moving ballad nothing emotionally. It's still a personal note from man to woman, singer to wife.
The legend patiently works his way through this tribute to wife Trisha Yearwood. "Stronger Than Me" should be an easy song for others to take on as their own — something that will ultimately decide where it ends up against his many hit songs. Heavy chords serve early notice that the focus will be relentless, and at no point does Brooks open his eyes to let light into a serious, pointed performance. A few light guitar licks supplement an arrangement that is sure to stand out on country radio, should it get a chance.
While Brooks debuted the song during the 2018 CMA Awards and has talked about its importance in some detail, little is actually known about where the song came from. He didn't write it and stayed quiet when pressed for details about who did, other than joking it was "two guys who are slobs." One of those "slobs" had a song on Brooks' 2014 album Man Against Machine.
Did You Know?: Matt Rossi and Bobby Terry wrote "Stronger Than Me" for Brooks.
Garth Brooks Performed "Stronger Than Me" at the CMA Awards:
Garth Brooks' "Stronger Than me" Lyrics:
She always says that I'm the rock that she leans on / But it's so hard to believe / Cause she is always there when I start losing faith, going crazy / She saves me / And every now and then she just wants me to hold her / But that don't mean she's weak / The way she's unafraid to let her feelings show just means she's stronger than me.
Chorus:
She lifts the weight of this whole world off of my shoulders / With nothing but the touch of her hand / And every day and I wake up and she tells me that she loves me / I feel more like a man / I know I always thought I had to have the answer / Be her strength and take the lead / But when it comes to everything that really matters / She's stronger than me.
Piano solo
She lifts the weight of this whole world off of my shoulders / With nothing but the touch of her hand / And every day and I wake up and I tell her that I love her / I feel more like a man / I'd give her anything in life that's mine to give her / Till the last breath that I breathe / And if I have a choice I pray God takes me first / Because she's stronger than me.
