John Mayer's new single 'Paper Doll' may be his form of payback for superstar Taylor Swift. The singer said he was "humiliated" after the track 'Dear John' landed on her 2010 'Speak Now' album, and now he's apparently fighting lyrics ... with lyrics.

It's never been confirmed that Swift dated Mayer, although there has certainly been speculation. But, after his comments about 'Dear John' being "cheap songwriting," it seems fair to say there was something going on between them, although Swift's lips were sealed. She simply insinuated that Mayer was presumptuous for assuming 'Dear John' was written about him.

The 'Your Body Is a Wonderland' singer just came out with a new single along with a quirky (and rather random) lyric video, which recreates the viral Prancercise video. It runs the lyrics of 'Paper Doll' across the bottom of the screen, and the chorus is rather curious. It goes, “You’re like 22 girls in one / And none of them know what they’re running from / Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?”

Reading between the lines, the "22 girls" refers to Swift's hit song '22,' and the "paper dolls" reference cleverly alludes to the lyrics in 'Dear John,' which say, “All the girls that you run dry have tired lifeless eyes cause you burned them out.”

If this is truly Mayer's attempt to call Swift out, isn't it just another way to get rich quick with "cheap songwriting" -- at least, according to his definition? You decide.
