Most proposal stories usually set the scene with a romantic theme, but Kane Brown went about his proposal to fiancée Katelyn Jae a bit more unconventionally.

The up-and-coming singer recently revealed to People the details of how he spontaneously popped the question during a movie night with Jae. And it wasn't even a romantic flick! The couple was watching a horror film -- namely the classic The Amityville Horror -- when he suddenly decided that it was somehow the perfect moment to ask Jae to be his wife.

“I just couldn’t wait," he related, admitting that it was a "weird proposal." Brown originally had plans to pop the question in a more traditional manner the following day, with “rose petals and everything like that," but opted for spontaneity instead.

Jae currently studies music management and originally had plans to become a singer herself, but decided to change course after determining she's not a fan of being in the spotlight. The couple met in 2015 and got engaged in April of 2017. Brown made the official announcement during an April show in Jae's native Philadelphia.

The breakthrough country star has a jam-packed schedule opening for Chris Young on his 2018 Losing Sleep World Tour that kicks off Jan. 11 in Indianapolis and continues through the spring before wrapping up on May 19 in Washington state.  After winding down from the hectic tour, Brown and Jae will tie the knot in fall of 2018.

“Basically we’re already married,” he says. “We just need the paperwork!”

Brown recently celebrated his gold-certified hit, "What Ifs," featuring longtime friend and fellow rising country star Lauren Alaina, marking the first No. 1 song for both artists.
