Keith Urban Says He and Nicole Kidman Are Lucky They Met Later in Life
Country star Keith Urban and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman were 38 and 39, respectively, when they married. Though they weren't googly-eyed twenty-somethings when they said 'I do,' the singer believes it was a lucky thing to meet later in life.
"Keith always says, ‘We're lucky we met late in life. The sadness of that is we can't have six kids together, but the greatness of that is [we are done] with all the other stuff, so now we are totally present for this.' That's a great thing to hear from a man," Kidman tells the Edit. The couple, married now for 8 years, have two daughters together: Sunday Rose, 6, and Faith Margaret, 3. Kidman also has two adopted children, Isabella, 21, and Connor, 19.
Before meeting Urban, Kidman had gone through deep heartbreak, divorcing first husband Tom Cruise in 2001 after 11 years of marriage. If anything, that experience has given her perspective during the tough times. "Now I have the ability to go, ‘Okay, this too shall pass,'" the actress explains. "Sometimes you've just got to navigate through pain and depression. Maybe you have a down day, but life is contrast. I'd rather feel it and know it."
The couple's marriage seems to be very much alive, and on their eighth anniversary, Urban dedicated 'Once in a Lifetime' to his gorgeous wife while he played a concert in Melbourne, saying: "Eight years, baby girl, this is for you tonight my love; I love you so much." The sweet moment prompted a jealous reaction from her girlfriends. "I had two girlfriends sitting with me and they were like, ‘B---h!'" Kidman says, laughing. "I went, ‘Hey! I've been to hell and back!'"
While their relationship is filled with passion, Kidman enjoys the easygoing lifestyle she and Urban live in Nashville, admitting, "We watch 'America's Funniest Home Videos' and reruns of 'The Brady Bunch,' that's very much our life."
So, what's the secret to their rock-solid marriage? "Snuggling,” she shares with a smile. "Snuggling is the secret to happiness."
