Kellie Pickler is doing her best to get husband Kyle Jacobs to love the deep-fried southern food of her childhood. Pickler, who hails from Albemarle, N. C., explains, "Kyle's from Minnesota, so he didn’t grow up eating southern food. My grandparents had a huge part in raising me. My grandmother deep-fried everything. You add a pound of butter and nothing's good for you, but it all tastes good."

The newlyweds were married this past January, and the 'Red High Heels' star admits to PEOPLE, "I'm just lucky if I don't burn the house down. I'm trying to work on the cooking thing, so it's a big deal if I get into the kitchen." Pickler gained national attention on 'American Idol,' but before that she worked at Sonic, serving up chili cheese fries, onion rings and corn dogs.

Ramen noodles also happen to be a big favorite at the Pickler/Jacobs abode, but the bubbly country star hopes she can get her husband interested in one of her all-time favorite foods. "I haven't gotten him hooked on fried okra," she says. "He hates that, but that's my favorite food. We gotta figure out how to get him to like it."

Food differences aside, Pickler gushes about her new husband: "We love each other. We're crazy about each other. He knows that he's No. 1, and I know that I'm No. 1 to him, so that's the most important thing. He's definitely my little Romeo."
