Kelly Clarkson is returning to The Voice for Season 15 next year, and she'll be joined by another American Idol alumni. Jennifer Hudson will return to her coaching chair next year, joining current coaches Clarkson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

Clarkson won the first-ever season of American Idol, so it made headlines worldwide when she chose not to join the Idol reboot, as had been rumored, and instead signed on to the show's closest competitor. Hudson made her debut as a coach on The Voice in Season 13 last year, but was replaced by Alicia Keys this season. Next season will mark the first time Clarkson and Hudson have squared off on the popular reality singing competition.

“We are so excited to welcome back Kelly and Jennifer, two dynamic forces who bring undeniable soul, passion, and inspiration as coaches,” NBC Entertainment Alternative and Reality Group President Paul Telegdy says (quote via Entertainment Weekly). “They each have a unique understanding of what it’s like to be in the artists’ shoes. Bringing these two voices together with Blake and Adam for season 15 is sure to make this one of our best seasons yet!”

All of the Times Kelly Clarkson Dabbled in Country Music

Clarkson has proven to be a very popular and effective judge, and before her run on the show even began, she attributed that to a unique mix of qualities.

"I’m a mix of Simon [Cowell] and Blake [Shelton]," she told Us Weekly. "I’m constructive because it would be impossible for me not to be, if you know my mother. I grew up with constructive criticism. And it made me a better human … I’m just saying I think that I’m incapable of not giving criticism constructively. So I think that’s like Simon."

The Voice airs on NBC on Mondays at 8PM. The semifinals for Season 14 of the show are set to begin on Monday, May 14.
