Kelly Clarkson Cover of Miranda Lambert’s ‘Tin Man’ Stuns Like the Original
Kelly Clarkson spent the opening night of her Meaning of Life Tour on Thursday (Jan. 24) tearing into a slew of her pop hits ("Miss Independent," "Behind These Hazel Eyes") but a highlight was her slowed-down cover of Miranda Lambert's "Tin Man."
The performance — which was caught on camera by a number of fans at the California show — brought a pony-tailed Clarkson to be bathed in the light of the spotlight, singing the heartbreaking song with just a small, subdued band behind her.
"She is one hell of a writer," a fan wrote on Twitter, seemingly quoting what Clarkson told the crowd after the performance. "I hope I did it justice, Miranda. I love that song … I was cleaning out my closet and I had my phone on and that came on and I was like, 'Whaaaat?' I was bawling. I was a sobbing mess."
The opening night of Clarkson's tour also included performances from openers Kelsea Ballerini and last season's winner of NBC’s The Voice, Team Kelly's Brynn Cartelli. The run is in promotion of Clarkson's current album, Meaning of Life.
"Meaning of Life is the album I always wanted to make and I am so excited to finally be able to tour it!" Clarkson remarked in a press release last year. "Even while recording it, I couldn't wait for people to experience the music live, to not only hear it, but feel it."
