Kelsea Ballerini singing an acoustic, stripped-down version of her new single “Dibs” is a thing you need to see. Doubters beware: you’re likely to fall in love with this talented new artist.

Ballerini cut the song for Taste of Country readers, and at once she impresses and charms the audience. There’s no shortage of energy or enthusiasm as she sings through the catchy chorus. Surely she’s sung “Dibs” a thousand times, but it’s like she’s performing it for the first time.

“If you got a kiss on your lips that you’re looking for somebody to take (Hey) / If you got a heart that ain’t afraid of love ain’t afraid to break (Hey) / If you’ve got a Friday night free and a shotgun seat / Well I’m just saying, I ain’t got nowhere to be / So baby I’ll take whatever it is you’ve got to give / I’m calling dibs.”

Simple percussion and one acoustic guitar build a raw track for the Knoxville, Tenn., native to ride on. Has anyone looked like they were having more fun than Ballerini is in this video? Afterward she went on to explain how the song came to be. Josh Kerr, Jason Duke and Ryan Griffin helped pen the second single from The First Time.

“I had the title in my phone for a long time and it was always just a fun, flirty title,” Ballerini says. “I think country music is in this cool place right now where they’re kind of letting other genres bleed in a little more so we kind of wanted to do that.”

Look for the 21-year-old on the road this summer and fall, playing fairs and festivals until she begins the Just the Right Kind of Crazy tour with Dan + Shay.
