Kelsea Ballerini Didn’t Need to Be Talked Into That Jason Aldean Duet
Kelsea Ballerini nearly said "Yes!" before the question was full offered. The singer appears on Jason Aldean's upcoming They Don't Know album, singing "First Time Again" with the ACM Entertainer of the Year. It's kind of a dream come true.
One of the song's writers actually reached out to the "Peter Pan" singer. She tells Taste of Country she's always been a big fan, so she was flattered that she was considered. "First Time Again" is a breakup song, with the two singers trading verses before coming together at the chorus.
"I remember when he did his duet with Kelly Clarkson," she says, referring to "Don't You Wanna Stay" from 2010. "I feel like him singing with a girl brings out this different side of him as an artist."
The two hadn't talked about the song, as they recorded their vocals separately. That the song's title nearly matches her album title was an afterthought.
"Peter Pan" is the third single from The First Time, and fans will get one more called "Yeah Boy" before Ballerini moves on to music from a second album. The 22-year-old says the next album will be half breakup, half new love. She's experienced both since releasing her debut album in 2015. Currently she's dating Australian musician Morgan Evans.
Look for her cover of Crystal Gayle's "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" when the ACM Honors concert airs on CBS next Friday (Sept. 8).
