Kenny Chesney's new song "Get Along" is a necessary reminder of the little things we can all do to make a difference in our personal corner of the world. The single is the first from Chesney's upcoming, still untitled album.

Each verse of "Get Along" is a vignette that finds the storyteller (Chesney) interacting with someone seemingly down on his or her luck. The man with the Bible has some good advice, while the girl on the billboard is a subtle reminder that a life that looks glamorous is often flawed. Josh Osborne, Shane McAnally and Ross Copperman wrote the song as a way to pull together divisive and frayed ends of the world we live in. The chorus does just that:

"Get along on down the road / We’ve got a long, long way to go / Scared to live, scared to die / We ain’t perfect but we try," Chesney sings.

"Get Along" is in the spirit of "Noise," Chesney's first single from Cosmic Hallelujah (2016) in that it's his take on society. Two of the three songwriters helped on that Top 10 hit as well — as he nears his 25th year as a recording artist, the Tennessee native has embraced songs that carry an important message. Again he's embracing simplicity in a world that's smoggy as he attempts to redefine himself as equal parts poet and common-man.

Did You Know?: "Get Along" was written shortly after Chesney's last album Cosmic Hallelujah was released in 2016. The writers held it until he was ready to record his next album.

Watch: The Story of Kenny Chesney's "Get Along"

Kenny Chesney, "Get Along" Lyrics:

Met a man wearing a T-shirt / Said, Virginia Is for lovers / Had a bible in his left hand and a bottle in the other / He said all you're given is the sunshine and your name / And we just started laughing when the sky started to rain.

Chorus:
Get along on down the road / We’ve got a long, long way to go / Scared to live, scared to die / We ain’t perfect but we try / Get Along while we can, always give love the upper hand / Paint a wall, learn to dance call your mom, buy a boat, drink a beer, sing a song, make a friend / Get along while you can / Always give love the upper hand.

Saw a model on a billboard / 1-800-get-to-know-me / Wondered was she photoshopped or were her eyes really that lonely / Did she leave her hometown / Thinking she'd end up in L.A.? / Did she break down in the desert and get stuck beside the highway.

You find out when you die / The keys to heaven can’t be bought / We still don’t know what love is / But we sure know what it’s not / Sometimes you’ve got …
