Kenny Chesney and Ed Sheeran sat down together for the very first time and wrote "Tip of My Tongue," the country hitmaker's next single and the first listen of what's to come from his next album. The singer posted the full song at midnight Friday (July 12) for fans to hear.

The mid-tempo, progressive-sounding track places Chesney's familiar voice in a progressive new setting, creating a very contemporary track that has strong pop influences.

"It's a long way down to where I wanna go / It's a long way down to the center of your soul / It's a long way down, and I'm a loaded gun / But I love you salt and sugar on the tip of my tongue," Chesney sings in the chorus.

"It is an authentic story in my life and idea in my life, about connection," Chesney says. "Once we got into the idea of the song and started exploring, the song, in a lot of ways, wrote itself."

He has nothing but praise for his "Tip of My Tongue" co-writer, Sheeran.

"As a co-write with a new writer, it’s one of the most fun sessions I’ve done in a long time," Chesney shares. "I get why people love working with him."

Ross Copperman is the third writer on "Tip of My Tongue." It's set to appear on Chesney's next studio album. A press release describes the song as a "decidedly grown up" track that plays on a figure of speech over a melody "you can just drift in."

Did You Know? Chesney signed a new deal with Warner Music Nashville in 2018, after more than 20 years with Sony.

Kenny Chesney, "Tip of My Tongue" Lyrics:

I love the dimples in the small of your back / The way they're speaking to me just like that / Red wine made my imagination run / Oh I can taste it on the tip of my tongue

Let it run, let it roll / Baby I am under your control / Love me fast, kiss me slow / Hang onto anything you can hold

Chorus:

It's a long way down to where I wanna go / It's a long way down to the center of your soul / It's a long way down and I'm a loaded gun / But I love your salt and sugar on the tip of my tongue

Girl, believe me when I say it's true / Nobody makes me feel the way you do / Well I love you from the morning till the setting sun, yeah / I can taste the ocean on the tip of my tongue

Let it run, let it roll / Baby I am under your control / Love me fast, kiss me slow / Hang onto anything you can hold

Repeat Chorus

I wanna love you till my days are done / I wanna tell you that I think that you're the one / Oh, girl, you know when it's all said and done / Everything about you's on the tip of my tongue
