Kenny Chesney, one of the highest grossing tour performers in the country, will open the brand-new Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on March 31, 2011. The 7,470 seat theater is located in downtown Tuscaloosa, Ala., adjacent to the Black Warrior River and minutes away from the University of Alabama.

"It's not just that Kenny Chesney is a big star," explains Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox to sponsors and the media at the amphitheater's official ceremony, "but that he crosses genres, which is important to us in building a diverse lineup. And it's especially showing faith in a smaller facility such as ours."

The four-time consecutive American Country Awards Entertainer of the Year (from 2005-2008) will be kicking off his Goin' Coastal tour on March 17, 2011, in Palm Beach, Fla.

'Hemingway's Whiskey,' Chesney's most recent studio album, debuted at No. 1 on on both the Billboard 200 chart and the US Country chart. The album has spawned two hit singles, the ballad 'The Boys of Fall,' written about playing wide receiver on his high school football team, and the mid-tempo track 'Somewhere With You,' which is about the struggle of moving on from a past relationship.
