The results are in, and Meghan Linsey of Team Blake came in second place to 16-year-old Sawyer Fredericks of Team Pharrell during the Season 8 finale of The Voice Tuesday (May 19).

Given Blake Shelton's track record of four winners and Linsey's stellar performances over the course of the season — including a renditions of "Freeway of Love," "Something" and her original song "Change My Mind" — many thought this country singer had the title in the bag.

Her mesmerizing performances during Tuesday's finale — including Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" alongside hopeful Sarah Potenza and Kelly Clarkson's "Invincible," which she sang with Clarkson — fueled the belief that the crown belonged to Linsey.

So during the long dramatic pause The Voice host Carson Daly took before announcing the winner, we all thought Linsey's name would be the next words out of his mouth. But when it was Fredericks' name called, Linsey looked as confident and poised as she did throughout the season, as if she knew he would win.

"Thank you guys so much for everything! I am so blessed to have been on been on this journey. You are amazing and I love you all!" Linsey tweeted minutes after the results were announced.

During the show, the cameras went behind the scenes to hear each of the contestants' final confessions. Their secrets were aired during the live finale. "Ultimately my goal was to have a second chance at having a career as a solo artist," Linsey told the camera. "I feel like I really have done what I set out to do."

After a season of one jaw dropping performance after another, we think you did too, Meghan.
