Nicole Kidman Wins Best Actress at Golden Globes, Praises Keith Urban in Speech
Nicole Kidman accepted the Golden Globe award Sunday evening (Jan. 7) for Best Actress in a limited TV series, for her role in Big Little Lies — and she addressed the main topic surrounding the awards show this year, as well as had some sweet words for her husband, Keith Urban.
“This character that I play represents something that is at the center of our conversation right now. Abuse,” the actress said during her acceptance speech. “I do believe and I hope we can make the change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them. Let’s keep the conversation alive."
Kidman, who like a number of other prominent actors was dressed in black as a protest statement against sexual harassment in Hollywood, contrasted her serious words with a loving message for husband Urban.
"When my cheek is against yours, everything melts away, and that is love. It’s true. I love you so much," she said, addressing him directly from the stage.
The evening's award marked the fourth Golden Globe for Kidman. She previously won an Emmy for her work on the series. In October, she gave a statement to People defining her thoughts on the wave of abuse allegations rocking Hollywood: "As I’ve stated before publicly, I support and applaud all women and these women who speak out against any abuse and misuse of power — be it domestic violence or sexual harassment in the workforce. We need to eradicate this behavior."
She also provided backing vocals on her husband's single "Female," which was inspired by the allegations made against mogul Harvey Weinstein and the numerous women who have come forward with their stories.
