Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus Would Love to Be the Next ‘American Idol’ Judge
Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood... add one more country name to the list of potential 'American Idol' judges. Rascal Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus believes he'd be a good fit to fill Steven Tyler's empty chair when the show begins next year.
"I would really like a shot at doing it," DeMarcus tells CMT Radio. "I don't know if I could swing it with the time commitments to Rascal Flatts."
Admittedly, his schedule is pretty full. In addition to tour dates through October, he's got a new baby at home. Wife Allison gave birth to Dylan Jay on July 20, making it two young kids for the happy couple.
"It's something I'd really, really love to do but I think they've got far better talent in mind than me," DeMarcus joked about the open 'Idol' slot. Paisley appears to be the country frontrunner, but after rumored meetings and discussions about the job, both he and the network are staying quiet. Keith admitted he turned down the chance to critique singing hopefuls. Previously, Shania Twain represented country music as a country judge in 2010.
