Tim McGraw Releases Powerful ‘Humble and Kind’ Video
Tim McGraw's video for "Humble and Kind" is an inspiring message to country music fans everywhere.
The soaring ballad is the latest single from McGraw's current studio album, Damn Country Music, and it's definitely a return to the more serious message songs that he has offered up over the years, like "Live Like You Were Dying."
Written by Lori McKenna, who's one of the most-respected songwriters in the Nashville community, the acoustic-based song starts off simply and builds into a big, powerful production with strings, centered around one of McGraw's typically understated-yet-effective vocal performances that focuses on communicating the emotional heart of the story.
"Hold the door, say please, say thank you / Don't steal, don't cheat and don't lie / I know you got mountains to climb but always stay humble and kind," McGraw sings.
McGraw shared the premiere of the "Humble and Kind" video via his Facebook page on Thursday (Jan. 21). The video intersperses scenes of people's biggest life experiences from all over the world with quotes from both McGraw and various media about the song, which the superstar has said is one of his favorites he has ever cut.
"This song is so special to me," he writes. "I really wanted a video that showed the universality of the message of Humble and Kind. Thanks to Wes Edwards for executing this vision and to Oprah Winfrey for lending us scenes of Belief from all over the world. I hope you like it as much as I do."
He connected with the song especially powerfully after taking his daughter Gracie off to college. “I cried through every take,” he admits. “I would try to get myself together and I’d get halfway through it and I would just start blubbering every time I tried to sing a line.”
