Reports that a Yellowstone spinoff focused on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler has been pushed to 2026 are grounded in fact, but possibly untrue.

The show that most are calling Dutton Ranch (apologies to Cole Hauser) was thought to be on track for fall. Then, an executive for Paramount said it wouldn't be ready until 2026. So, which is it?

And what about another spinoff called Rio Palo?

  • Cole Hauser, Kelly Riley and Finn Little are set to return as Rip, Beth and Carter on a Yellowstone spinoff that follows their new life.
  • It's one of several franchises in planning or production, including Y: Marshals, The Madison and 1944.
  • None of these shows have a firm start date, although at least one — The Madison — has filmed.

Has Dutton Ranch Been Moved to 2026?

Paramount CEO Chris McCarthy is the source for all Dutton Ranch timeline news. During a Q1 company conference call, he said late 2025.

Then on July 31, he led the Q2 call and said 2026. So, which is it?

It's possible McCarthy is an unreliable narrator, because during the Q2 call, he said Landman would be delayed until December, and then two weeks later the show announced a Nov. 16 return.

Moral of the story: it's all very fluid, and until there is a teaser video or a trailer announcing an official start date, assume nothing.

It's just as likely the show begins next month as it is it starts in 2027.

What the Heck Is Rio Palo?

Earlier this week, Texas news outlets began to write about extras being needed for a new Yellowstone spinoff called Rio Palo that would film in Ferris, Texas. The town's mayor even celebrated the production.

There's no show by that name. Filming for a Yellowstone spinoff will pick up in Ferris, but the show in question is actually the unnamed Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler show.

Country Living did the hard work of reaching out 101 Studios to confirm which show is filming in Texas and to confirm that the show we're calling Dutton Ranch will not be called Rio Palo. There is no river called the Rio Palo in Texas.

Ferris is about 20 miles southeast of Dallas, which raises interesting, unanswered questions about why Beth and Rip would be there.

Most assumed their show would focus on their new life in Montana at the ranch they bought at the end of Yellowstone.
