Ashley Monroe Says Next Pistol Annies Project ‘Brewing’
A mini-run of dates with Miranda Lambert has left her Pistol Annies bandmates itching for something bigger. Ashley Monroe says she, Lambert and Angaleena Presley are missing each other, and eager to return to the road or the studio.
In an interview with Fuse, Monroe says a reunion “is definitely brewing.” The trio never broke up, they just pursued solo projects, making it difficult to find time to collaborate. “We have a lot of song ideas going. I feel like it's soon,” Monroe says after talking about the chills all three got when performing together.
To date Pistol Annies have released two studio albums, and played a few shows together in addition to pop-up performances during Lambert’s solo tour stops. Their 2011 debut Hell on Heels came just as Lambert was ramping up as the dominant female voice in country music. The title track was the song some radio stations in America started playing, and while it never cracked the Billboard Country Airplay chart, the song went Platinum. During the summer of 2011 the trio were seemingly on every national TV talk show.
In 2013 the group released a follow-up called Annie Up that didn’t find the same critical or commercial success. “Hush Hush” was released to radio, and it peaked just outside the Top 40. A tour was scheduled, but ultimately cancelled as the group said they didn’t have time to rehearse. This led to rumors that the trio had split, something all three have strongly denied over the last two years.
"Pistol Annies started out that it was just organic,” Monroe tells Fuse. “Me and Miranda thought of it on a couch, she had never met Angaleena, and we called her and got started. That's the thing with us, we never want to force it. If we're too busy, then don't force it, they'll be a time when things let up a little bit, then we'll make more music."
Monroe released a studio album called The Blade in June, while Presley released her solo debut, American Middle Class, in October 2014. Lambert’s last studio album was Platinum, released in 2014. She’s said to be working on new music.
