Blake Shelton Admits He’s Happier Than He’s Ever Been With Gwen Stefani
Blake Shelton has had a roller coaster ride of a year. While a guest on Chelsea Handler's Netflix series Chelsea on Thursday (July 7), Shelton opened up about hitting rock bottom following his divorce from Miranda Lambert, his relationship with Gwen Stefani and his new music.
He says the process for his latest album If I'm Honest started "last year when my marriage and everything fell apart and then trying to pick the pieces up from being at the rock bottom and trying to move forward."
The country star admits he didn't know Stefani very well the "first time around," when the two artists appeared on The Voice together, but they both soon realized they have a lot in common.
"All of a sudden [I] find out she's going through basically the same exact thing at the same time," Shelton explains. "My life turned around so quickly."
Pausing for a moment, he takes into account his last year.
"All this has to be meant to happen," he says. "So I made a record about it."
Shelton says it makes him nervous to talk about his relationship with Stefani, but pressed by Handler, who asks if he's scared he's going to jinx it and if he is the happiest he has ever been in his entire life, he concedes.
"There's no question about it, absolutely no question about that," he says with a smile.
Stefani has also been open about her relationship with Shelton and how he helped her during her divorce, previously saying "he's a pretty rad guy."
“There’s been loads of people who have helped me through this tragedy. Blake really helped me."
Shelton and Stefani recently sang onstage together at Country Jam 2016 to sing their duet "Go Ahead and Break My Heart." Stefani's appearance at the festival was both a surprise and a highlight — the pop-rocker rocked the house with her own song "Hella Good" to help close Shelton's 40th birthday set.
