Carrie Underwood Celebrates 10th Opry Anniversary With Stellar ‘Cry Pretty’ [Watch]
Carrie Underwood delivered a show-stopping performance of "Cry Pretty" at the Grand Ole Opry in honor of her 10th anniversary as a member of the admired institution.
Underwood celebrated the milestone a decade after she was inducted into the Opry on May 10, 2008. Ten years later, the superstar is still lighting up the famous stage, this time with a inspiring rendition of her current hit, which fans can now watch (above).
Dressed in a sparkling red-and-black number, Underwood owned the stage as she belted out the song's honest lyrics with her incredible pipes, hitting every note with poise while bringing a sense of grace to the song's powerful moments.
A lifelong fan of the Opry, Underwood was invited to be a member of the institution by Randy Travis in March of 2008, and was inducted two months later by Garth Brooks. She passed the 100-performances threshold in 2017 on a stage where she's performed alongside multiple members of the country music family—from Jennifer Nettles to Dolly Parton to Reba McEntire.
"This is gonna hold a very special place in my awards case," she said, tearfully, on the night of her induction. "I just want to thank everybody at the Opry for having me as a part of your family — because it really seems like a great family to be a part of."
"Cry Pretty" is the first single off Underwood's album of the same name, set for release on Sept 14. It's her first project on her new label home, Capitol Records; the title track is making a steady climb up the country charts, currently sitting inside the Top 10 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. She describes the album as "soulful," "emotional" and "real."
