Carrie Underwood demonstrates she's not afraid to address bigger issues with "Love Wins," her second single from Cry Pretty.

The song begins, "Stray bullet and a mama cries / Her baby won't be coming home tonight / Sirens screaming down the avenue / Just another story on the evening news." Later, she touches on the "politics and prejudice" of our divided culture before delivering the powerful chorus, which rings with a message of bringing people together.

"We weren't trying to speak negatively about our world, because we live in an amazing world, but I feel like we get really caught up in surface things and I feel like in this world, we're quick to get angry at each other," Underwood said recently. "I personally think that we're all different for a reason. I feel like if you just sit down and talk to somebody who's not like you and keep it calm, we can all learn from each other."

The introduction of gospel-tinged vocals in the latter verses and choruses lifts "Love Wins" to even more powerful heights. It's a song meant to inspire change or at the very least be a long overdue statement from a country music artist on our polarized society. It's a risk in that way, as she flirts with politics. For Underwood the reward is worth it.

Did You Know?: "The Bullet" is another song on Cry Pretty that tackles social issues. She tells Stellar magazine it was partially inspired by the Route 91 Festival shooting in Las Vegas.

Carrie Underwood's "Love Wins" Lyrics:

Stray bullet and a mama cries / Her baby won't be coming home tonight / Sirens screaming down the avenue / Just another story on the evening news

Politics and prejudice / How the hell'd it ever come to this / When everybody's got to pick a side / It don't matter if you're wrong or right

No / So it goes / But I hold on to hope and I won't let go 'cause

Chorus:

I believe you and me are sisters and brothers / And I believe we're made to be here for each other / We'll never fall if we walk hand in hand / Put a world that feels broken together again / I believe in the end love wins

Sometimes it takes a lot of faith / To keep believing there will come a day / When the tears and the sadness, the pain and the hate / This struggle, this madness will all fade away

Repeat Chorus

Love is power / Love is a smile / Love reaches out / Love is the remedy / Love is the answer / Love's an open door / Love is the only thing worth fighting for

Repeat Chorus
