Carrie Underwood, Mike Fisher Stand Against Slavery With End It Movement
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are among the celebrities who participated in the sixth annual Shine a Light on Slavery Day on Thursday (Feb. 22). The couple posted a photo on social media as part of the #EndItCampaign.
In the photo above, Fisher has his fist raised, displaying a red X on the back of his hand, while a large red X covers the lower part of Underwood's face.
"Together, we’re in it to end it! Help us shine a light on modern day slavery. @enditmovement #enditmovement," Underwood writes to accompany the photo.
According to a press release, the End It Movement is "a coalition of the world's leading organizations in the fight for freedom." Each year it brings together "celebrities, athletes and Freedom Fighters" to empower people across the globe to "raise their voice and awake the world to the reality that slavery still exists."
The organization estimates that between 20 and 45.81 million men, women and are children trapped in various forms of slavery around the world, including bonded labor, forced labor and sex trafficking. The problem still persists even in the United States. "There are more slaves in the world today than at any other time in history," according to their research.
"End It Movement and its 16 non-profit Coalition Partners are working together to expose the truth behind a reality that most don't realize still exists," the organization states.
"The End It Movement has become a global phenomenon, inspiring people from all walks of life to raise their voices and show their passion in the fight against slavery," Jenni Brown, End It Movement Campaign Director, says. "This movement continues to be about awareness, but more importantly, this awareness leads to action. Laws are changing, bills are being passed, and more resources are becoming available thanks to Freedom Fighters who continue to charge forward and shine a light on slavery."
