Ella Langley's new heartbreak duet doesn't come with a happy ending. The lyrics to "I Can't Love You Anymore" — featuring Morgan Wallen — find two people struggling to get beyond the yearning that comes when a relationship ends.

  • Ella Langley released her Dandelion album on April 10, and it quickly became the No. 1 album in country music.
  • "I Can't Love You Anymore" was added to the project on April 24 after she teased its existence at the end of her music video for "Choosin' Texas."
  • The two singers are currently touring together, and they debuted the song live on April 18 in Alabama.

The "Be Her" singer opens this new addition to the Dandelion album after she finds a physical reminder of their relationship.

That sends Langley spiraling through the chorus. "I hate that your kiss / Left a burn on my lips / Oh baby how do I tell my heart it ain’t yours," she sings with Wallen on harmonies.

Austin Goodloe and Joybeth Taylor helped Langley write the lyrics to "I Can't Love You Anymore."

Wallen says it was a quick "yes" for him when the singer approached him. Dozens of his songs have focused on heartache, but few have included an equally tortured female perspective.

Wallen's second verse includes his own memories of love, and an agreement that he's better off without her.

That's where this song differs from "Don't Mind If You Do" lyrically. Langley's duet with Riley Green pivots at the very end to give hope to the relationship. "I Can't Love You Anymore" is sad from start to finish.

The two singers have eight more dates together on the Still the Problem Tour, the next coming on May 9.

Ella Langley, Morgan Wallen, "I Can't Love You Anymore" Lyrics:

Ella Langley
I found your lighter in my nightstand / That’s why I’m thinking of you I guess / What part of over don’t I understand / ‘Cause damn I miss the taste of your cigarette / Your memory pulls me right back in / It’s like I forget.

Chorus (Langley and Wallen):
I can’t love you anymore / Can’t keep chasing you round, round the back of my mind / I can’t need you anymore / Can’t keep sharing this bed with your ghost every night / I hate that your kiss / Left a burn on my lips / Oh baby how do I tell my heart it ain’t yours / When I’ve said it before / I can’t love you anymore, anymore, anymore.

Morgan Wallen
Just when I think you let me let you go / There’s a picture of us covered in dust on the dash / Swore you lit it up just to see the smoke / Wrote me plus you with the date on the back / Look at that / Your memory pulls me right back in / It’s like I forget.

Repeat Chorus

Tell me baby ooh / What do I do, what do I do / Could you tell me baby ooh / What do I do, what do I do.

Repeat Chorus
