Gabby Barrett Turns Up the Heat With ‘Jesus and My Mama’ After ‘American Idol’ [Listen]
Aspiring country artist Gabby Barrett didn’t take too long to get back out there, releasing her new original song “Jesus and My Mama” on YouTube just days after losing the American Idol crown to Maddie Poppe. In the video released on Sunday, May 27, Barrett shows off her vocal chops in a song that seems to speak of a girl a lot like her.
That girl is not only a mix of sweet and rough and gritty, but also has some big musical dreams she seems determined to make come true. Every time you hear her speak, you realize there just might be no stopping her.
“I was doing my own shows when I was 11 years old,” Barrett told Taste of Country during an interview last month before landing in third place during the singing competition show. “I feel like I am a true entertainer and performer. There are other artists out there, in which some like to write and others like to perform and others like to talk, but I really just love to perform and entertain.”

Soon, Barrett and her American Idol counterparts will be entertaining thousands as they head out on the road for the American Idol Live! 2018 tour, featuring the talents of Top 7 finalists including Cade Foehner, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Catie Turner, Jurnee, Maddie Poppe and Michael J. Woodard. The tour, which kicks off on July 11 in California, will also feature Season 8 American Idol winner Kris Allen.
So what do you think — does Barrett have the vocal chops of a future superstar?
