Nashville knows how to party, but Music City's Bridgestone Arena was especially “turnt up” for Jason Aldean’s High Noon Neon Tour stop Friday night (Sept. 7).

Maybe it’s the dog days of summer vibe, or maybe it was just a long week for Nashvillians, but this audience was ready to dance, drink and sing like jaybirds. Party-ready fans showed up early to catch openers Lauren Alaina and Luke Combs (who received an incredible, headliner-esque response).

With Combs becoming an increasingly tough act to follow, it’s only fitting that the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year was on deck. Aldean didn’t disappoint the revved-up crowd in his opening song – “Gettin’ Warmed Up." The singer made his entrance by launching out of a chute in front an elaborate video display that served as a backdrop for his entire set.

Aldean’s guitarists put the rock in country and then some, delivering blistering electric solos by the second song (“Take A Little Ride”). The band rolled with a trio of high energy tunes before easing into Aldean’s mid-tempo radio smash “A Little More Summertime.” From there it was a push-and-pull of old-school Aldean (“Amarillo Sky,” “The Truth”), new material (songs from 2018’s Rearview Town) and a majority of his hits in between.

Like many of his fellow country royalty with deep catalogs, Aldean chose to focus more on his spectrum of hits than on his most current album. Rearview Town wasn’t much of a bedrock for the show, with Aldean only performing five songs (out of a 24-song set) from it. The title track, “Gettin’ Warmed Up,” “Drowns the Whiskey,” “Girl Like You” and “You Make it Easy” all made the cut. Aldean even noted this was just the second time his band had played “Girl Like You,” which is his confirmed next single.

He also played into his running gag of hyping the crowd for a possible Miranda Lambert appearance before performing “Drowns the Whiskey” (which features Lambert on the recorded track).

“I called to see if Miranda was in town this weekend,” Aldean said onstage. And after a long pause, he continued, “She wasn’t. My bad.” (Aldean has been known to do this at other shows, but if Lambert was ever going to join the fellow country superstar onstage, Nashville would’ve been the best chance.)

Cruising through his approximate two-hour set, Aldean let the crowd know he wouldn’t be performing an encore because “sitting backstage is wasting time” before launching into his four-song outro of “My Kinda Party,” “She’s Country,” “Burnin’ it Down” and “Crazy Town.”

After his final song, the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year pounded a beer onstage, signing off in rock star style.

Aldean will head to the Midwest for a couple of dates, then trek out west for the remainder of the tour, wrapping up with a string of California shows at the end of September.
