Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert Bring Country at CMA Awards With ‘Drowns the Whiskey’
Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert delivered a dose of traditional country singing their acclaimed duet "Drowns the Whiskey" during the 2018 CMA Awards. Dressed in matching blue accents and standing in front of a rustic, simplistic backdrop, Lambert and Aldean offered an inspired performance of one of the year's most celebrated duets.
Lambert and Aldean stood close to each other and kept the no-frills performance all about the song, which has been hailed as a return to form for Aldean. He performed the song solo earlier in the year at the CMT Music Awards because Lambert wasn't able to join for the performance. That made the Nov. 14 onstage debut of the duet particularly special.
The song nabbed three nominations at this year's awards. Though "Drowns the Whiskey" didn't win the CMA Award for Song of the Year earlier in the night — that nod went to "Broken Halos" by Chris Stapleton — the song still earned nominations for Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year.
Miranda Freaked Out When She First Heard "Drowns the Whiskey"
Written by Brandon Kinney, Jeff Middleton and Josh Thompson, "Drowns the Whiskey" hit No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart as the second single from Aldean's most recent album, Rearview Town.
Both Lambert and Aldean earned additional nods at the awards. Lambert was once again nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, while Aldean landed a nomination for the top prize, Entertainer of the Year.
