Kacey Musgraves Covers Selena at Houston Rodeo, Literally Rides Off on a Horse
Kacey Musgraves gave a truly unforgettable Rodeo Houston kickoff performance on Monday, Feb. 25, which included a cover of the late Selena's "Como La Flor."
True to her brand, Musgraves performed on a sparkling, pink-lit star stage in the middle of the stadium, and stunned the crowd with her rendition of her fellow Texan's "Como La Flor."
Selena Quintanilla was the "Queen of Tejano Music," with a flourishing career in the '80s and '90s before her untimely death in 1995. At the end of the song, Musgraves screamed, "I love the Queen Selena as much as you do, Viva Selena!"
The Texas crowd, of course, loved it.
As if that wasn't epic enough, Musgraves — a native of Golden, Texas — seized the opportunity of being at a rodeo (and having space between her stage and fans' seats) by literally riding off on a horse after finishing her set.
Social media also took note of the highlights. That Musgraves has a song called "High Horse" wasn't lost on fans, and they ran with it — along with their admiration for their favorite artist for closing out a show in such a grand way.
Musgraves was the first performer at the 2019 Houston Rodeo, and the lineup is stacked with big country names. Brooks & Dunn, Turnpike Troubadours, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton and Tim McGraw will all headline the historic concert series before spring is over. Also set to perform: Kane Brown, Brad Paisley, Cody Johnson, Zac Brown Band and Old Dominion.
As for the Grammy Album of the Year winner, Musgraves is currently on her Oh, What a World Tour through March. She's booked for Coachella this April before she's off to Australia for the next leg of her tour. This fall she officially begins the second leg of her tour.
