Keith Urban, Alan Jackson and a Dozen More Country Superstars Record ‘The Choice’ to Help Children in Need
Over a dozen of country music's top performers participated in recording 'The Choice,' a song written by Billy Gilman to bring awareness to children in need of shoes across the world. Every download of the song will provide a pair of shoes to a child in need.
Alan Jackson is the first voice one hears on the singalong. Reba McEntire comes next, but one is quickly left to answer questions like, "Wait, was that LeAnn Rimes or Wynonna? Or Kellie Pickler?" All three women take a line or two in the song, as does Montgomery Gentry, Randy Travis, Josh Turner, Keith Urban and many more.
According to a press release, 100 percent of the proceeds from the download will go to Soles4Souls, a nonprofit with a goal of putting shoes on the feet of people who need them. The goal is to put 500K pairs of shoes on children in need.
"We are the one / A spirit lies within / Together we can open doors that lead us to where we've never been / A day will come / When we all hear the voice / A time and place where someone else is counting on us to make / The choice," they sing in country music's 'We Are the World.'
The song is available at iTunes. A total of 18 country voices helped Gilman make the record. “It’s amazing to see the camaraderie,” he said. He explained that artists like Urban and Rimes responded to his request immediately, saying, “Tell me when.”
