Hillary Scott knew that for her special day, she needed a special dress. That's why the newly-married Lady Antebellum songstress reached out to one of the most esteemed designers in the business, Vera Wang, to design a custom gown, tailored just for her, that would make her glow on her wedding day.

She got her wish. Wang delivered a one-of-a-kind mixture of lace and beauty: a strapless mermaid-style look with a layered tulle skirt banded by horsehair and even hand-sewn crystal and pearl beading throughout. “While the dress was very tailored, the lace work was extremely feminine,” Wang tells PEOPLE. "[She was] a contemporary vision of a traditional bride."

So what did Scott think of the final product? "Hillary was joyous, over the moon,” Wang says. “And [she was] actually very enchanted with the thought of a hand-pieced, hand-engineered lace mermaid wedding gown."

Scott and Chris Tyrrell wed on Saturday, Jan. 7, in a private ceremony in upstate New York.
