Lady Antebellum’s New Song ‘Ocean’ Is a Tearjerker [Listen]
Lady Antebellum are back with another heartfelt ballad from their upcoming album. The trio have announced the release of their newest studio project, Ocean, and have shared its tearjerking title track.
Similar to Lady Antebellum's other previously released songs from Ocean, the song "Ocean" features themes of love and heartbreak ("Like a lighthouse, I've been shining bright / Through the dark for the both of us / And 'I've done it outta love' is not enough"). Hillary Scott takes the lead vocals, commanding the song with her emotional performance, while fellow Lady A member Charles Kelley harmonizes with Scott for the second half of the song.
"Ocean" consist of minimal instrumental elements, with the main focus on the somber piano and gauzy guitar that highlight Scott's vocals and emphasize the goosebump-inducing harmonies. This most recent release from Lady Antebellum is such a powerful tune that it ended up setting the theme for the album.
"It's such a cinematic and theatrical melody that really tied together our standpoint of this record as a whole," Scott says in a press release. "Ocean stands for all of the things that we think and feel when we hear the word. Its parallel with those feelings, much like the songs about barely keeping your head above water and others that make you feel like everything is smooth sailing.”
"Ocean" is the third song to be released from the album of the same name. It was preceded by the songs "Pictures" and "What If I Never Get Over You," the latter of which is Lady Antebellum's first single from the record.
Ocean will be released on Nov. 15. It is available to pre-order now.
