Luke Bryan is still getting used to his role as a judge on American Idol and the perks that come along with that — like spending time with one of his musical idols, Lionel Richie.

“I grew up adoring Lionel," Bryan told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel on Monday night's (May 7) Jimmy Kimmel Live. "When I got to college, you have to ride those back roads and listen to a little Lionel Richie," he added of his fellow judge. "It facilitates the love life.

This long-held adoration for the legendary Richie has gone so far that recently, Bryan and fellow judge Katy Perry were invited to Richie’s house for a visit.

"I've never seen anything like this house," Bryan shared of the icon's residence. "Every ceiling in his house is different. I mean, the bathrooms have different ceilings. It’s amazing. It’s like a museum."

Also during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Bryan weighed in on the news that all three of the judges will be coming back for the next season of American Idol. "I don’t know if I have ever had guaranteed employment for another year this far out," Bryan joked. "I know I have a gig next year. It’s pretty special. I’m not used to this sensation."

Of course, everything hasn't been easy for Bryan on the singing competition show. "They are ripping my concert tickets online because I said (something)," Bryan said, speaking about the online abuse he gets when a contestant is sent home. "They hate it, but that's what is terrible about this show, because we have to eliminate people. I guess I thought we magically got to one and I didn’t have anything to do with it."

Now, the fate of the Top 5 American Idol contestants is in the fans' hands. The next episode — a live show on Sunday (May 13)— will take the field down to three.
