It's not an uncommon scenario for one partner in a couple to hold up the majority of the finances while the other one chases his or her dreams—and while Luke Bryan and wife Caroline are currently reaping the benefits of his successful career, it turns out these two are no different from any other pair who have found themselves in a see-saw financial situation.

As the singer and American Idol judge told Pickler & Ben on Monday (Nov. 19), his wife was the one racking up some pretty good bucks while he was just getting his footing as a songwriter. "When we got married, her career supported me when I was making about $10,000 a year,” he admits. “She was the one bringing in the dough.”

The Bryans had a famously on-again, off-again dating history after meeting in college in Georgia, with one of the longer "off" periods resulting in Luke starting to put his roots down in Nashville while Caroline finished up her degree in order to launch her own career.

Although Luke describes this particular stint as the "Dark Ages" for both of them, it paid off well—as the duo finally tied the knot, shared the financial burdens over time, and are one of country music's most beloved couples to this day.

The fun-loving pair are parents to sons Tate and Bo (who are 8 and 10, respectively) as well as guardians to Luke's teenage nephew. They frequently both document their clan's funny escapades on social media and are universally known as a tight and grounded celebrity family.
