Rascal Flatts are sitting down with iconic journalist Dan Rather for AXS TV's The Big Interview, and Taste of Country readers are getting an exclusive first look at the episode.

The award-winning vocal harmony group consists of lead singer Gary LeVox, guitarist/vocalist Joe Don Rooney and bassist/vocalist Jay DeMarcus. LeVox and DeMarcus are also second cousins who grew up together, but according to Rooney, he didn't worry that he would be odd man out when they formed the trio.

"Not at all," he tells Rather, joking, "I was looking for two cousins to sing with when I moved to Nashville, and boy, it worked out!"

The group admit that they fight amongst themselves, but it's not just the cousins.

"Yeah, of course," Rooney says. "We all do, but that's what makes it beautiful. You know what, we really get along so well, and I have so much admiration for these two guys. They didn't have to bring me into the fold. They could have done something on their own and been terrific, no doubt about it. And for Jay to take me under his wing — I learned a lot from Jay. He's always been a producer, an extraordinary talent. He can play anything with strings on it, and he saw something in me. He believed in me, and he chose to have me meet Gary and bring me into this thing, and I'm forever grateful."

The Rascal Flatts episode of The Big Interview is set to premiere at 8PM ET on Tuesday (July 28) on AXS TV.
