Riley Roth’s Acoustic Performance of ‘Friendly’ Will Lift Your Spirits [Exclusive Premiere]
Riley Roth knows what it's like to wonder if that touch, that look or that innocent message meant something more. The country newcomer's debut single "Friendly" is about a friendship that's about to get hotter. Watch her friendly performance of the new song during this Taste of Country exclusive premiere.
The Pennsylvania native lives on that balance point of friendship and relationship during "Friendly." Roth is doing her best to deny her feelings, and frankly, it's not working. The guy she sings to seems to have the same intentions — late night phone calls, a sleepy "I love you" and relief when watching scary movies are all things friends do, right?
"We’re just being friendly / Cause you’re just a friend to me / You touch me accidentally / Baby there’s no chemistry," she sings at the chorus. "Maybe there’s a reason I lean in so close when I’m near / Maybe that’s why you call when you’re lonely / But we’re just being friendly, aren’t we."
"I’ve definitely gone through situations like this before, so naturally, I wrote a song about it," Roth shares. "It has been really cool seeing the reaction this song has been getting and how people are relating to it."
The 20-year-old now lives in Nashville, where she's working with producer Busbee (Lady Antebellum, Maren Morris) on new music. This comes after she spent several years traveling back and forth while enrolled in a school program that allowed her to do two weeks on, two weeks off to chase her dream. After graduating high school early, Roth moved to town and quickly signed a publishing deal with Busbee and BMG. She's now signed to the Altadena record label.
