Sam Hunt’s ‘Break Up in a Small Town’ a Small Part of a Country Explosion on ‘The Voice’ Finale
Sam Hunt was part of a big night for country music on television Tuesday night (Dec. 15). Hunt performed his hit "Break Up In a Small Town" during the season finale of The Voice on NBC. He was one of three country performers, with a fourth and fifth chosen in song.
Hunt's energetic performance of his current single from Montevallo came on a night when Wynonna Judd and Ricky Skaggs took the stage. Team Blake singer Barrett Baber was the first finalist to perform. He and fellow Season 9 singer Zach Seabaugh sang Randy Travis' "Forever and Ever, Amen" to an eager audience. Later Rascal Flatts' "Summer Nights" was covered. Justin Bieber, Missy Elliott and Coldplay were a few of the other superstar performers.
Baber was one of two Team Blake Shelton singers amongst the four finalists. Shelton had a chance to win the show for a fifth time, and country music could have won for a fourth season in nine tries. In the end, neither happened. Baber was first eliminated, and a final dramatic moment between 17-year-old Emily Ann Roberts and Jordan Smith went Smith's way. It wasn't a shocking finish, as Smith was thought to be a favorite heading into Tuesday night's finale.
Shelton will return for Season 10 of The Voice in February.
