Earlier this month, Blake Shelton shot a brand-new video for the theme song of the 'Footloose' remake, set to hit theaters next month. While Shelton remains tight-lipped about the details behind the video, he's doing all he could to contain his excitement for its premiere.

"The video is freakin' cool," Shelton tells Taste of Country with a grin. "I mean, it's really cool! We did it in Lewisburg [Tennessee]. I don't want to give too much of it away, but it's really cool. It's got a bunch of kids in it, and everybody's dancing and having fun."

Shelton knew from the get-go that doing his spin on the classic song was the only way to go when he was approached to be involved with the movie and its soundtrack, even if it does mean dealing with a fair share of criticism. "I expected it to be polarizing when I signed up for it," he says. "I'm that guy. I always have been, so who else to do that and piss people off than me [laughs]. Whenever they approached me about the soundtrack, one of the songs they wanted me to do, I wasn't even interested in. I wanted to do 'Footloose' or I wasn't going to be a part of the soundtrack. That was just the only one that I would have been interested in doing."

"[The other day] I was looking on the internet, reading people's comments about it," he continues. "It was either 'Oh my God, this is the worst thing I've ever heard in my life' or 'Oh my gosh, this is really awesome!' It's one or the other. I've never seen anything more polarizing than that, but that's what I've become good at, I think [laughs]: parting the ocean. I'm interested in seeing how the movie's going to do. I think they did an amazing job with it."
