Carrie Underwood Celebrates Canada Day With Ode to Her Fave Canadian
While everyone in the United States is eagerly waiting for the middle of the week to celebrate Independence Day 2018, Canadians got to celebrate their own special national holiday, Canada Day, on Sunday (July 1).
Plenty of Americans paid tribute to our neighbors up north as well—one of them being Carrie Underwood, who just happens to be very close to a certain Canadian.
That would be her husband, Mike Fisher, who was born and raised in Ontario and played hockey for the Ottawa Senators before eventually moving over to the Nashville Predators. Underwood posted a nice shot posing with her best guy, calling him "my favoUrite Canadian"—cheekily using the preferred Canuck spelling. "Sending lots of love to all my family and friends in the Great White North," she added.
Fisher was actually still based in Canada when he first met his Nashville beauty backstage at one of her concerts—which made their budding relationship a bit geographically challenging.
However, love prevailed, and the two married in 2010, managing their dual careers by splitting time between Ontario and Tennessee. A little less than a year later, Fisher was drafted by the Preds, which made things considerably easier!
Now, of course, the happy couple are nearly eight years strong into their marriage, and have 3-year-old son Isaiah to round out their little family. Fisher is now retired, and has time to cheer on his wife, who is definitely not retired yet!
Overall, we'd say Underwood has good reason to celebrate Canada Day, wouldn't you agree?
